Congratulations to the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers Foundation as you hold the Philippine Power Expo and Conference 2024! My deep appreciation to your organization who share the same passion and advocacy for the energy sector.
Your theme,”Philippine Energy Today and the Future”, aptly reflects on the new opportunity for the engineering profession in achieving a sustainable energy future. Our government pursues an ambitious goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in our power generation mix to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040. Our new Philippine Energy Plan embodies the transformative direction towards attaining these goals. Among these is prioritizing the utilization of our country’s indigenous energy sources, such as offshore wind and floating solar in our renewable energy portfolio, including adopting electric vehicles. These goals are anchored on robust private-sector investments.
To implement our blueprint for renewable energy development, we will create quality and green jobs by taking stock of our most essential asset — human capital. Our government has already initiated measures to identify the baseline skills of our workforce, particularly in the different stages of offshore wind development. We will develop and harness multi-generation skilled workers who will competently support our growing domestic offshore wind industry while enhancing employment opportunities in a more competitive international market.
I would like to encourage you, therefore, to keep abreast of the development in the Philippine energy sector and stay at the forefront in promoting renewable energy. Skills development programs and competency mapping will be the cornerstone of our generational expertise and global competitiveness in advancing these renewable energy technologies. With your support, we will realize a future where energy innocation drives prosperity, sustainability, and opportunity for all.
